Batik Sarong industries has a great business potential in Malaysia. Firstly, batik is being widely used by Malaysian in different occasions be it formal and informal. Batik is not a mere plain cloth with natures concept design stamped or drawn on it, it is more than that. It is part of culture in large component of south-east-asia. The market is huge as and therefore, the producers must ensure that the production never stops since there will be people shopping for batik sarongs, day in day out.
I had the opportunity to meet an old friend of mine a few weeks back. We spent some quality time discussing on business ideas and it came to his mind to get serious in setting a batik shoppe. He has few contacts of batik sarong producers ranging from batik sarong manufacturers, fine batik artistes with amazing portfolios and few others. On paper, his plan seems very solid and encouraging. I wish him the best of luck.
He told me the he has been thinking seriously to venture into the batik business for quite some time. It was all initiated by the love for the batik designs. He said, the art behind each batik designs that he saw is very 'seducing' and, given the opportunity to personally meet experienced batik artiste which specialize in design for batik chanting has encourage him to proceed with the business plan.
He began to study on how to develop the business. He said that he probably going to start with selling different designs for sarongs, be it designs from Terengganu, Kelantan, Langkawi or even batik designs from Indonesia, just to add up the varieties. His main intention is to a commercialize batik sarongs no matter what brand their label with.He is opening the ventures to make it easier for customers to shop batik sarongs online. But first, he needs to develop a list of batik sarongs suppliers in Malaysia and Indonesia, and that is the task that requires helping hands from his circle of friends, and I am part of it.
A brief history of batik sarongs usage in Malaysia or formerly known as Malaya. Traditionally, Sarongs are considered as daily wear for malay female. It is simple to use and suitable for the tropical weather condition in this region.
I stayed with a friend at a traditional village in southern part of Malaysia a few years back. What really caught my attention was that, to each and every relative houses that he took me to, every housewives seems to be wearing batik sarong for daily use. Just a printed sarongs and a t-shirt will just make their day. No fashion statement ever needed as the sarongs itself indicate their simplicity about fashion.
On a visit to the nearest town to buy some round neck tee for me to wear during my stay, I did not miss the opportunity to buy a few pieces of beautifully printed batik sarongs as souvenirs for my family members. It is not that expensive though if one were to compare the prices when shopping for batik in London or New York, perhaps.
I shall not forget the memorable experience of my stay there and I would definitely pay another visit and I will make sure to stay a bit longer if I ever got the opportunity to enjoy the experience with batik sarongs again.
